    Abstract
This national report covers the activities and developments in the field during the current year. Successful operation of IRS-IA satellite and supply of IRS-1A data products to the Remote Sensing user community in the county on an operational basis is the most important segment of Indian Remote Sensing activities the satellite has covered the country over 25 times since its LISS -I in March the satellite which include LISS-I and LISS IIA & IIB cameras are functioning well and are providing high quality pictures the demand for IRS-1A data products has been continuously increasing the ladt year sales of IRS-1A data products being of the order of Rs. 12 Million the integration the configuration studies for the satellites IRS-ICS are progress initiated the towards apprising the user its application potentials was organized by Hyderabad during IRS-1A December 1988 Subsequently 24 regional workshops have been successfully all the state where several case studies on various case studies on various resource themes using IRS-A data have been presented.

The NRSA Earth station situation at Shadnager Hyderabad continued to receive data from Land sat -4 and 5 as well as Spot satellite s part from that of IRS-1A Plans are afoot to augment data receiving facility to receive data from ERS-I plans for launch by ESA towards end of 1990 on an average 850 satellite planned for launch by ESA towards end data produce were generated monthly to meet the user demand. Central and sate Govt. agencies continue to be the major users of satellite data products a number of application studies covering a wide spectrum of natural resource themes are being carried out at national regional levels various Remote Sensing applications projects projects under Indian Remote Sensing Satellite utilization programme and Remote Sensing Application Mission in various fields of natural resources have progressed satisfactorily Major tasks under the projects have already been completed and the projects are in final stages of completion recently work on land use mapping of the country has taken up by the department of Space Involving all the operational state study to combat drought for 17 districts in 12 states as an attempt towards to combat the work has also been started on integrated study sensing application centers. as am attempt towards establishment of National Natural resources system data base for National Capital Region has been is being created for development planning of Hill areas using same package as a result of establishment planning under drought monitoring projects using NOAA NVDI drought bullets with a frequency of one week have been published initially for six states in India.

All the five regional Remote Sensing service centers with digital image analysis facilities situated at Bangalore Dehradun Jodhpur, Kharagpur ,Nagpur are now operational and are providing service to Remote Sensing users set up respective regions out of the 25 states in the country 21 states have set up Remote Sensing application centers are in process of procurement of image many of the state and are carrying out projects on Remote Sensing applications covering several application themes of specific importance of their states.

Several ground truth measuring instruments and a variety of optical opo electrical equipments image processing systems have been developed by of space the technology for 27 of these equipments has already bee.

Several ground truth measuring instruments and a variety of optical op electrical equipments image processing systems have been developed by of space the technology for 27 of these equipments has already been transferred to Indian industry . All these equipments are under regular production various remote training centers continued to provide training to users in Remote Sensing applications training in Remote Sensing applications is also offered by many of the Remote Sensing user organisation in the country the present throughput of training institutes in India roughly 700 scientists per year five RRSSCs have also been offering two week training course on basics of digital image processing to working levels scientists about 250 scientists have been trained so far by the RRSSCs.

As a long term training measure some universities have started teaching Remote Sensing as a part of already existing courses papers dealing with natural resources also some of the universities offer specialized courses leading to M.Tech degree Remote Sensing user interaction has been continued through user involvement in various national Remote Sensing projects through NNRMS community in kept informed of important developments in Remote Sensing field RRSSC activities are reported through developments in Remote Sensing field RRSSC activities news letter INTERACT published from RSSCC Central Management office Bangalore.

    Introduction
The activities related to Remote Sensing in India have been presented regularly as the National paper in the earlier ACRS this national report covers the activities and developments in the field during the current year 1989 most difficult and significant development has been the successful operation IRS IA satellite and supply of IRS 1 A data products to the Remote Sensing user community in the country on an operational basis meeting the thought put and turn around time requirements .All the five regional sensing service centers have been commissioned and the user requirements for digital image processing analysis are catered to by these centre several application projects are under way with many of them in final stages of completion themes such as land use marine fisheries crop acreage and production estimate in monocropped land use marine areas integrated land water resources study to completion themes to combat drought monitoring ground water potential zone mapping of saline and alkaline operational in the mapping of water attention Remote Sensing has now become potential land use mapping reservior sedimentation regional geology and the forested and vegetated areas mapping.
