Abstract:
In Infrastructural development the effective decision making and planning depends on the information regarding factual and functional data of the terrain in relation to anthropogenic influences. In this paper, attention is drawn specifically towards the importance of applied geomorphological studies for generating spatial database along with related aspatial data using Remote Sensing and GIS technologies with conventional survey methods. Such prototype physical database (i.e. Geoinformation) facilitate to frame environmentally sound planning parameters for minimizing the adverse effect of natural hazards on Highway planning with cost modeling. Case studies from West Bengal, India and Policoro province, Italy exemplify the importance of applied geomorphological studies for generating baseline information in the context of successful planning and execution of engineering activities for Highway routing.
