A case study

Development of rural economy largely depends on
adequate market facilities. They work as intermediate foeal points between rural
and urban areas. But development of such focal point is arrested mostly due to
lack of adequate transport in the countryside. Road Connection works as a
catalytic agent for any social and infrastructural development which ultimately
stimulates regional transformation in terms of growth and development. Due to
lack of proper linkages millions of small and marginal farmers do not get access
to the market and depend on middle man. The present study makes an attempt to
highlight both development of agro-marketing centres and transport connectivity
with reference to regional development in Vaishali District.
For finding
spatial distribution of market centres various categories of markets are
included in study and MPT is decided by the 'Modified Reed Munich Technique'.
Score for different variables are added which give the index for each
settlements by both the scores helps to analyse the relation of connectivity and
market centres. Regression coefficient also helps the dependency of each other.
The Study explains that there is a positive co-relation. Hence, rural
settlement needs better connection for uniform market development. Through
development of such market foci regional imbalances can be restricted in the
district.
