GIS on Indian road congress’ agenda
The Indian Road Congress (IRC), the body of road
builders have planned to use GIS as a tool for planning road development and to
encourage private participation in road development through the BOT (build,
operate, transfer) system. This, along with other resolutions, was declared in
the latest Annual Session of the 59th Indian Road Congress (IRC). The existing
national highways network is highly deficient due to inadequate capacity,
insufficient pavement, weak and distressed bridges, congested city sections and
railway crossings.
