Efficient recreation of the past objects and visual simulation
Figure2 shows the basic flow of this system, and details of this system are as follows.
- 3D Parts
Basic 3D parts for the objects are constructed previously using 3D CG software, and textures of the parts are set simultaneously with modeling. Figure 3 shows the 5 basic parts used in this paper under the report by LEON.
- DEM
In order to recreate view around the Palatitsa Palace, DEM is prepared using topographic map which was surveyed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Department of Cadastre, Photogrammetry & Cartography).
- Attribute Data
Attribute data means the position, kind and size of the parts, and these data can be acquired by following procedures:
- Planimetric map of the palace is scanned and displayed on the monitor (Figure 4).
- The kind of the parts for a section of the palace is selected from the list window shown in the Figure 5.
- The one of corner point for the selected section is pointed using mouse.
- The section area is decided by drag the mouse on the oblique direction since a rectangle area is generated with movement of mouse.
- The width, length and an angle for the section area on the planimetric map are adjusted using mouse (Figure 6).
- After adjusting each parameter, these data are saved as an attribute data file.
These procedure have ability to acquire several attributes data simultaneously. For example, in the case of setting stone columns in line at even intervals, attribute data for each column is acquired simultaneously according to pointing the first and end column and input the number of columns.
- Auto Placement of the Parts
After acquiring the attribute data, basic parts are placed automatically by auto placement function, which is developed using script language.
- Modification of Monuments
In order to build up high quality 3D model, shape and texture of the parts need to be modified in cooperation with related researchers. However, great deal of time and labor are needed for this modification. Therefore, in order to save the time and labor of this modification, the authors developed the modification function, and the detail modification procedures in this system are as follows:
- The parts which need to be modified, are selected using mouse.
- The modification items such as exchange the parts, and rectification of size or texture are selected from the modification window shown in Figure 7.
- The parameter for the parts is changed and modification result is displayed.
