Abstract
The study in Eco-development Area (EDA), part of Great Himalayan National Park Conservation Area (GHNPCA) had been conducted before the award of new area (265.6 Km2) for 255 Km2. There were 13 revenue villages with a population of about 11715 (1991 census) in EDA. The area bears maximum biotic pressure and puts pressure in GHNPCA too. Mapping was done by using satellite data (FCC of IRS 1-B LISS II Sept/Oct 1993 and SOI toposheet of 1961on scale 1:50,000) in GIS Domain.

Changed detection analysis, between 1961and 1993 depicted the overall change of about 13 km2 was under Habitation/Agriculture/Orchard. The change had been correlated with the human population dynamics and with fuel/fodder consumption patterns. The unidirectional change (toward forest) in landuse/cover was also observed in the area.
