Abstract
Based on analyzing and researching the development on domestic and overseas urban forestry, the definition, essential and connotation are explored. From the extent of sustainability and trend of urban development, this paper probes into main problems of urban forestry contradicted with the desired goal in Guangzhou. The problems are as follows: First, the average area of greenbelt is relatively lesser. Second, design and arrangement of trees are not coincident with systematic principle. Third, the space structure programming of urban forestry is not rational. Six strategies in development and construction of urban forestry in Guangzhou are thus put forward: First, the concept of virescence three-dimensionally should be introduced. Second, the structure of forest should be modified to promote the forest quality. Third, tree species composition should be arranged and modified rationally. Fourth, the compensation system of urban forest benefits should be established and improved. Fifth, more progresses should be made in legislation of urban forestry. Last, the governmental devotion should be increased and drumbeatings strengthened too.
