GIS in exploration with special viewpoint to mineral potential and definding the exploration priority maps
Methodology
Mineral data is one of the most important information layers in exploration studies .Therefor creating a database for such kind of data is of great importante. In order to carry out exploration studies and defining promisingarea all geological ,geochemical ,gephyisical, remote sensing and the orther related data are needed.
The more we have information about the study area the better we are able to present a model for mineralisation in the area finding the mineral ore deposite.
Therefor, the base of exploration in this method is the complet ,correct and widespread information. The mineral potential map and target areas is one of the results of the data processing. The target areas are defined according to the exploration priorities, the high potential areas usually cover near 1% of study area. The percentage of mineralization probability is a number between 0-1.
If this number is nearer to one , there is more probability for mineralization in the area. There is no limitation for entering the other information layers in this method, and any of the layers which is more related and effective can be used.
Shahr-e-Babak is a case study for this method. This sheet located in Kerman province (central of Iran ) the weather in this area is hot in summer and cold in winter warer sourses are rivers, drinages and springs. This sheet is a part of Uromieh-Dokhtar magmatic belt. Position of this zone is North west -South east, and is included volcanic and volcano sedimentry and plotonic rocks.

Fig.2: Results of chemical analyses for copper in Shahr-e-Babak area
Data layers are including
Geology , Geomorphology , Intrusive bodies , Alterasion, Hammer exploration , Geochemical, Aeromagnetic ,Remote sensing and Faults data.
All these data processed and then can be shown as the evidence maps. The evidence maps can be prepared in two forms: 1.binary 2.multi class.
In this case study, binary class has been used. In addation, there are different methods for final results. From which Weights of Evidence and Fuzzy logic can be named.
We have tried to use these two methods for this case study.Following preparation binary maps, these maps are processed and compiled and the result of which is mineral potential map for copper in Shahr-e-Babak sheet which show the posterior probility for this element exploration. ( fig.1 )
Using of Geographic Information System in mineral exploration ,is a favorable way for study of immense amount of data which can reduce budget and time and limit the area for exploration and get better results for experts.
In study of Shahr-e-Babak sheet ,the most important aim was knowledge of new areas for two kinds of copper mineralization.
( vien form and porphyry )
Therefor data processing do in two level and join to gether. The results for copper mineralization ,are presented in six areas that cover near the 15 Km2 of this 1:100,000 sheet.
Results of sample analyses and field studies show there are the economic parts in this case study that it is proposed for detail and semidetail studies in the future. ( fig.2 )
