Abstract
In April 2001 the Exploration Department of National Iranian Copper Industries which is responsible for exploration and supervising on exploration plans of copper mines in Iran, decided to build up a GIS in such a way to store and analyse different data as well as manageing and control different tasks relating to exploration of cupper mines in the country. Based on the requirements of the Exploration Department, the Copper GIS(CuGIS) project was defined as an applied GIS system with the capability of displaying, storing, retreiving, updating, processing and analysing of different types of geo-spatial data including topographic, geologic, geochemical, geophysics and exploration drillholes maps and their associated attribute data For supervising and carrying out the project, the Steering Committee of CuGIS (SCC) which is consisting of GIS, mapping and geology experts broke the project into different subprojects. This paper outlines different parts of the projects . The most important aspect of CuGIS is the capability of combination different various geo-spatial data from different sources, in order to discribe and analyze interactions,to make predictions with models, and to provide support for decision-makers. For CuGIS different models such as Boolean operation, Index Overlay, Fuzzy Logic, Weight of Evidence and Expert System were evaluted. Among them, three of the models that were approprite for mineral potential mappig which is used in copper exploration selected and implemented in CuGIS.The result of implementation models has been discussed in this paper.
