Abstract

Mining is a site specific activity. This requires huge quantity of land. In our country, most of the mining areas are under thick forest or it posses thick population with agricultural lands. Thus the requirement of proper resettlement and rehabilitation plan for mining areas is very much on the cards. Geographic Information System (GIS) has evolved as a useful technique for effective R & R solution. Though in our country, there has not been much work regarding effective R & R management through GIS, this paper perhaps, is the first of its own kind. A case study has also been formulated to provide an exposure to effective R & R solution through GIS in Jharia Coalfields. Geospatial for Rural Development
