GIS Mapping for UNESCO trafficking and HIV/AIDS project Trafficking and HIV/AIDS project (UNESCO bangkok) improves the GIS database by furthering the statistical and spatial analysis of data from the Ministries. A number of maps are developed, updated and published such as updated Aids cases Zone10 at the district level, occurrence of HIV/AIDS by cumul, quotient, contour; identification of AIDS hotspot, animated AIDS, sex service venue and updated website and CD publications. The objective of the project is to collect complete and accurate geographic, socio- demographic and ethnographic data as well as data on existing government support at the district, sub-district and village levels to match them with the already available data on HIV/AIDS, ethnicity and socio-demography of GMS. One of the pilot areas has been implemented in chiangmai province Thailand. Main activity in this pilot area is capacity-building on GIS. A major capacity-building effort is required to train the TPSO Zone 10 (Ministry of Social Development and Human Security) staff in developing GIS and geo-coding in a pilot zone (Chiang Mai province). Activities will then be extended to the 19 other provinces in Zone 10. Data issued from this project can be used at the national as well as at the community level. The collaboration with Thai government Ministry of Social Development and Human Security TPSO Zone 10 will be furthered. A detailed work plan has been developed and agreed upon by the organization, including:The data treatment will be based on the methodology used by UNESCO in Thailand: GIS training Data collection (Geo database + Attribute data) Data audit Data cleaning Database management Map production (depending on the available data) Analysis Dissemination of results via website, CD distributions, publications The prject has been successfully in production and promotion of the maps and databases for migrant mobility and HIV/AIDS..Using Breakdown Figures, detailing how many migrants have registered with the Ministries of the Interior and of Labor, the information input for the maps. Also in near future the project will expand to Lao PDR and Cambodia. The new more inclusive phase will sult in the mapping of mobile populations, HIV/AIDS and focus on Highland peoples. The initial missions will aim at identifying existing data and analyzing the requirements. The data treatment will be based on the methodology used by UNESCO in Thailand.
