Application Of Geospatial Concepts And Geographical Information System In Disease Surveillance, Monitoring And Management Of Improved Health Care System

Abstract :
The geospatial information technology has gained momentum in recent times particularly io map out the spatial information system of various geographical characteristics and also socioeconomic information in order to bring out the plausible explanation for occurrences of various phenomena on the earth's surface starting from the disease outbreak to disaster proneness well in advance. The GIS and Remote sensing in this context were made as powerful tools for spatial analysis of various characteristics of disease occurrence, surveillance, monitoring and also management of health care services in relation to the magnitude of infection, spread and fatality. Using the automated digital cartography supplemented with GIS techniques increased the power of producing disease maps in relation to various geographical and socioeconomic and environmental phenomena. In addition the integration of GIS tools with Remote sensed products further enhanced to plan for improved health care delivery of services in relation to spatio temporal variation in the disease occurrence pattern. The present study made an attempt to map out the infectious diseases with the help of GIS tools and also using the remote sensed products helped to bring out to identify the regions of health and disease in relation to selected attributes such as variables drawn from environmental, epidemiological, socioeconomic and demographic variables in order to facilitate to build up a conceptual framework to plan for improved health care delivery system. The application of GIS in public health has its importance in recent times to plan for disease surveillance and monitoring programs. The present study was based on both the primary and secondary data and statistical techniques were employed and also embedded in GIS and RS to explain a meaningful statistical explanation for the occurrence of many infectious diseases.
