Cadastral maps are maintained by Survey and Land Records bureau throughout the country to demarcate land extent and ownership. Cadastral maps are periodically updated at the block, village taluk and district levels. Other attributes like soil characteristics, agricultural patterns etc. can be superimposed on these maps at a microlevel to build a comprehensive land information systems.MARS is a software system designed to generate cadastral maps from field measurement data and to mesh adjacent field maps to provide a map of the entire village. The maps are always generated from the actual survey data, thus reducing the storage space required and facilitating automatic updation.MARS provide connectivity to external databases. Land related attributes can be extracted from these databases and superimposed on the maps.
