Abstract
Regional assessment of meteorological drought in Azarbaijan province using SPI model and GIS

Abstract:
In order to evaluation and mapping of drought severity in Azarbaijan province ,we used SPI(standard precipitation index) model and GIS.
The monthly precipitation data are the inputs in this model. The SPI can be calculated with precipitation data and then drought condition will be interpreted in each place.
We used GIS as a tools to mapping of the area in relation to SPI amount. So at first we prepared the DEM(Digital elevation model) of the Azarbaijan province using Arc/info software and a digitizer. Then we calculated the regression equation between elevation and SPI amount for the area and the geographical distribution map of SPI was prepared.
Finally with classification of this map (in relation to the SPI amount ) we obtained the drought condition map of area.
