Abstract
The annual flood from July to November covers on great plain in downstream of Mekong river belonging Vietnam and Cambodia, including over 16,000 square kilometers of southern Vietnam . The urgent need of over 10 million Vietnamese residents in this area and Vietnamese provincial and central governments is how to keep track of the flood situation to cope with in time. Capturing water level data automatically in real time is the objective of this research. In that, a system of gauge stations is implemented in Mekong delta, alongside rivers, canals and in fields. Data of water level are captured by sensors installed at the gauge stations and transmited to centers for restoring data in provinces and center for processing data in Hochiminh City. At the center for processing data, spatial modeling softwares are used to make real-time flood maps which are launched on internet via the web site of www.mekogis.net designed as a webgis.
