In order to erosion type detection in Lasem sub-basin of the Haraz area, 1:50000 topographic maps were scanned and digitized by R2V software and different layers such as contour lines, hydrographic networks, watershed border, etc created in GIS environment. IRS images also has corrected and reconstructed by image processing softwares and different algorithms were applied on the mentioned data. Required images classified based on different methods of automatic and visual, then the extracted results compared with the field observations and also sampled area of different erosion with GPS. Comparison of the methods described to classify the types of erosion with high resolution satellite data revealed that based on the purpose of the study, there are different methods to create subjective maps from satellite images and needs further studies. In general visual method due to its high capability in analysis and interpretations was a more accurate method compared to the digitized classification method. Finally it is suggested that to identify different types of erosion, visual methods can used with satellite data and GIS techniques.
