The problems of
degradation Hazards have been studied at different landform units, delineated by
visual interpretation of False Colour Composite of Landsat imageries of
Arunachal Pradesh. The types of degradation are overgrazing, shifting / jhum
cultivation, deforestation, mass movement, depletion of natural vegetation,
erosion of fertile top soil covers, floods, earthquakes, storms, ecological
disturbance etc. are responsible for degradation hazards. The mass movement
types are topple, blockslide, creep, while those of erosion, types are ravine,
gully, rill, sheet etc. The study reveals that 45 per cent of total geographical
area of the state is affected by degradation hazards and extent of degradation
in each physiographic unit of state is calculated with different
parameter.
