Abstract
Coastal Zone Management is of paramount importance for protection against drought, cyclones, coastal erosion, seawater intrusion and surge. It includes environment friendly aquaculture and maintenance of coastal biodiversity. Historically satellite data has been used for ocean parameter studies since early 70’s. The paper mainly covers the use of satellite based study, for Ocean Primary Productivity (OPP) data extraction. In turn, the OPP data can be used for locating Potential Fishing Zones (PFZ). Ocean Primary Productivity can be extracted using modern technologies like Ocean colour satellites. The paper also reviews this relatively infant technology to obtain the OPP parameters and also highlights the Ocean Colour Monitoring limitations and future trends.
