Abstract
Changes in Landuse and land Cover is a dynamic process taking place on the surface, and the spatial distribution of the changes that have taken place over a period of time and space is of immense importance in many a natural resources studies. Especially the changes that have taken place with respect to agricultural land attains more importance, in the present context. Remote sensing plays a key role in providing information regarding the spatial distribution of various landuse classes, and multi-temporal data aids in detecting the changes that have taken place in a given terrain. Overlaying of spatial data is a common feature in GIS, and it creates a new theme by integrating the two inputs and resulting in a layer with new polygons and data from both the input layers. The utility in this application software developed with Map Objects and Visual Basic, is an effective tool to detect the changes automatically and requires the inputting of the integrated layer (two time data) in to the system. The initial step involves Creation of Utility Tool/Menus. The top-level commands are implemented in a toolbar in the main form. The main module will be capable of finding unchanged areas such that those areas are selected based on a specific query and are saved as a separate file. The application software has been developed in such a way that the forms themselves populate the various fields (classes) present in both the inputs, detects the areas where changes have taken place, and a provision is also given to save the findings for each of the classes present.
