The Coimbatore is a fast expanding city with state of Tamil
Nadu. Because of rapid growth in the Urbanization and Industrialisation, slums
were generated inside and out side the city limits. Slums are missance to the
society. It poses various environmental problems. The haphazard growth of the
slums deteriates the environment. In order to monitor the spatial distribution
and growth of the slum Aerial photographs taken during different periods were
interpolated from interpreted map we can analyse the spatial distribution and
growing and suitable remedial action could be taken by the city planners to
arrest the growth of the slums. The Aerial photographs proved to be a valuable
tool for this type of studies and it can be updated with the high resolution
satellite data like ikonos in the coming years.
