Abstract
The Trend of GIS application shifting from an operational support tool to a strategic decision support system, is followed by the demand for the incorporation of more powerful analysis techniques. Public and private organisations have a different perception of their surrounding, the former dealing with people, facilities, businesses and land. Traditionally spatial data has been in use by governmental departments dealing with planning, demography and topography. The main users of spatial data among private organisations are the departments of marketing and logistics, collecting demographic data and data on transportation and infrastructure. There is a strong connection between an organisation using spatial data and the use or intended use of a GIS. The technique of GIS plays a very crucial role in planning and decision making for any sort of facilities/development in Municipalities, we can not even think for better planning, design and even implementation without proper GIS usage and application. It also provides some information, which is very much useful in ategic decisions with regard to Land use and spatial issues, community development, environmental and economic issues and this can be used as tool through which the transparency of organization can be achieved and the tool that integrates all levels of information into a synchronized unity. The Challenge of now is to use modern information technology such as GIS for design and simulation of projected - public or private in combination with technology of Multimedia and virtual reality will enhance the quality of decision making, because one works from the very beginning towards support and acceptance of the plans. Now a days GIS — real needs; users willing to participate in the implementation, training and use of the system; senior management and/or council commitment to GIS implementation for both funding and support; knowledgeable staff to implement and operate the GIS — Municipalities considering implementing GIS technology within their organizations often focus on the physical technology and skip or side step initial and associated activities necessary for successful implementation.
