Abstract
High spatial resolution space borne systems like IKONOS, QUICKBIRD satellites and their sensors have the potential for more detailed and accurate mapping of urban land cover and land use.
In this study we try to focus on the spectral properties of urban materials and their representation and mapping from remote sensing data, especially vegetation cover area.
The vegetation cover maps inside the city will include the vegetation types and areas and their dynamic change during the last few years.
The GIS technology and software will provide a suitable procedure to analysis the remote sensing data, and Comparing the vegetation cover maps with the indicators green coverage of the constructed area items for the national environmental model city system, and to see if the develop at Nanjing city takes into account the urban green cover to find the suitable living conditions for the resident.
The case study in this paper is Nanjing city a capital of Jiang Su province at the Chang Jiang River in China.
