India’s more than 11/3 population is living in urban centers. Remote sensing and GIS is providing latest tool for planning in India. Although tremendous work is still be done in this field. If we will not think in terms of (georeferencing) the planned and developed urban pockets with in urban centre. The exercise of using GIS and Modern technology shall remain academic exercise. For the purpose to demonstrate the exercise, one Ganga nagar colony at meerut U.P. has been and its location has been derived from field survey and earmarked in the satellite image ( pan image). 12 prominent points in the colony are identified so that they are uniformely scattered.coordinates of all these points have been determined with repeated readings taken on these points by Lieca GPS instrument.
The degitized zonal plan of ganga nagar has been Georeferenced with the use of coordinates abtained with GPS. In the next hierarchy one pocket G’s detailed layout plan is dezitized and georeferenced with the use of coordinates otained with the use of GPS. All the above exercise has been done in Archview environment. With the use of above technology the gross root level unit a residential house in the particular pocket of the colony can be put to use and vice versa to the detailed top level and regional level plans. Prepared with the use of Remote sensing & GIS. The conclusion is that all underdevelopment schemes and new planning should mandatory to be georefenced so that when ever the upper level plannes are available it could be utilized immediately.
