Looking
for business partner, (posted on June 13, 2002)
M-Sat Planet Observer works in the field of high-resolution satellite image processing thanks to the production of true color mosaics, maps, and all publishing-derived products, intended in particular for private customers. Our range of multimedia products includes 3D interactive satellite maps on CDs, partial or complete navigable views of the world, and the first live world atlas ever produced - "Eingana". Visit our website at www.planetobserver.com,
or www.eingana.com for a presentation of the atlas.
We are currently looking for exclusive partners to carry out our activity worldwide. The partners will be granted a license to use the high-resolution image database for the geographic area concerned by the contract, and thus acquire the exclusive rights to market, sell and promote any kind of products associated with our activity.
M-Sat enjoys the most advanced technology and know-how in this particular field, and we would be glad to share all of this with you.
Please find enclosed our brochure detailing the International Licensing Partnership. Feel free to contact us should you require additional information and/or if you are interested in the program.
Yours faithfully,
Alain Frémaux

International Licensing Partnership
General purpose
Set up in 1989 in France, M-Sat S.A. is specialized in high resolution satellite images covering large areas of the earth’s surface. Thanks to its unique know-how, M-Sat produces continental mosaic images composed with thousands of entirely homogeneous images.
M-Sat started in 2001 to share its know-how and contents with international partners. This document aims to summarize the international licensing offer and explain the unique advantages offered to new partners.

The Satellite Images - The Innovative Solutions
The Uniqueness of M-Sat Satellite Image Data Bank
-
M-SAT S.A. is the leading provider of sets of digital image databases which provide a homogeneous
"satellite" view of the earth, in natural colors, with a geographic reference system.
- The M-Sat concept entails assembling thousands of satellite images to create continental databases, from
which are then extracted countries, regions, areas, towns…
- These satellite images are originated from observation satellites such as Landsat, Spot, Cosmos or NOAA.
- The technical and algorithmic enhancements brought by M-SAT that add notable value to these data are
among others: coloring (to obtain natural colored images as seen by astronauts), assembling, image correction,
suturing and indexing.
- The M-Sat satellite image database is used as raw data for professional applications, and also for
consumer markets.
- The areas presently covered are:
- The world at a 1km per pixel resolution
- Western Europe at a 30m per pixel resolution
- The USA at a 30m per pixel resolution
- South Eastern Asia (South Korea, North
Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines,
Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia), at a 30m
per pixel resolution is currently under production.
The M-Sat satellite image database is unique by its high resolution level, wide coverage of world areas and colored treatment, and is available now for consumer markets applications.
Advanced Global Navigation Solution
In association with Enovant Technologies Inc., its US-based partner specialized in complex navigation systems, M-SAT is offering an innovative global navigation system for satellite images. This solution allows online navigation on the whole earth. It gives new and great opportunities for online markets as well as intranet-based corporate applications. This solution is composed of:
-
A global satellite image database with its specific Application Program Interface (API) and toolset.
- A comprehensive environment for the management of an internet site.
- A browser based navigation interface compliant with current Java and ActiveX standards.
- A streaming engine that allows delivery over lower bandwidth networks, to reach maximum coverage of users.
- Tools to add non-satellite images linked
to geographic metadata for improved search, navigation and
information rendering.
The M-SAT global navigation solution can be interfaced with CRM and e-commerce solutions to leverage current marketing systems.
The international Licensing's offer
Geographical areas coverage
- The international partners should be
present on one of the following areas or continents:
| North America |
North Europe |
Eastern Europe |
Russia & Eastern countries |
| South America |
North Africa |
Middle East |
South West Asia |
| Central America |
Central Africa |
Arabic countries |
Indian sub-continent |
| |
South Africa |
|
Australia |
The Partner profile
- Our partner has a very strong presence in
the territory giving him a very sound knowledge of its market. The
partner has a great interest in the M-Sat database use and the
online navigation solution in order to develop or to market
navigation solutions for the market covered by the territory. The
partner desires to extend his growth on the mass-market with
physical products derived from the database.
The global licensing proposal
- M-Sat brings to the Licensee:
- the continental or regional high resolution satellite images database
- the worldwide navigable database, used for online navigation
- the internet streaming navigation software solution
- the licensee gets the exclusive right
to sell all the on-line or offline products to mass markets
(B2C) on the continental or regional area.
The licensee gets the opportunity to be the first one on his area or continent to have this satellite image database, the global navigation solution and ability to use derived products to face his markets.
The Licensing Opportunity
Products, Product Lines, Applications-
Many products lines can be generated from our contents or tools:
- Numeric products: 2D or 3D digital images, images licensing, all with unlimited applications
- Derived products: continents/countries/areas/towns maps, personalized maps, calendars, books,
business gifts, advertising materials, …
- CD & DVD ROMs: 2D, 3D
- Internet: applications e-commerce,
intranets, co-branding
Markets-
Individual customers through different channels: mail order, partnerships, retail, internet…
- B2B solutions oriented towards consumer markets: media, advertising agencies, magazines and
newspapers, TV, internet sites, tourism, education, government, public offices, editors, image databank…
- Business data: telecoms, GIS…
Competitors-
Competitors are either positioned differently on the above markets or with limited presence according to
the targeted markets:
- Satellite images distributors (e.g. Landsat) do not provide solutions that target both B2C and B2B markets;
- Image databank vendors: very few have some satellite images or global collections;
- Internet sites: image loading, not
navigation, mainly BtoB oriented
The M-Sat licensing
solution is quite unique on the international markets: quality of
image database due to the technical know-how, earth global
coverage, internet technology, broad consumer and business market
orientation.
Facts & Figures-
Asia-based LG-EDS Group contracted with M-Sat in June 2001 for an Asian license. Based on their market
analysis, they already recruited 25 people and plan to recruit 10 more in the coming year, both with technical and
marketing or commercial background.
- M-Sat projects annual and recurrent revenues of 10 million Euros per continent (as Europe). These
revenues are globally balanced 50% with direct sales to consumer markets (through M-Sat or partnerships), and 50%
in B2B markets.
- Over the last 3 years, the satellite map of France alone was sold in 100,000 units (one among 200 other
standard maps).
- An average gross margin well over 80% is
a realistic target. After an initial investment, we anticipate a
minimum of 15% net profitability, achievable in less than a
two-year horizon.
Licensee business proposal-
The business plan provided by the
Licensee is obviously depending on many factors: the partner’s
business organization, the geographic coverage, its market size,
the partner strategy (mass-market or/and B2B). We are looking
forward to help our licensees through analysis and simulations as
needed.
