Map India 2001 is 4 th annual international conference and exhibition in the field of
Geographic Information Sciences like GIS, GPS, Aerial Photography and Remote
Sensing. Although it primarily serves to Indian geographic community but, over a
period it has attracted quite a lot of international participation and provides
a platform for collaboration between India and rest of the world. India
is emerging as a very important player in the field of Geographic Information
Sciences. It has a sound history of surveying and map making. With the
advancement in mapping technology, particularly in view of information
technology being used as a major tool for map creation, updation, analysis and
dissemination, India has emerged as a major center for mapping technology and

highly customised solutions and services. In view of availability of skilled
manpower in the Asia-Pacific region at competitive prices, India serves the
