Autodesk GIS 2000 the International User Group Conference- A Report
September 10-13, 2000
The three day International User Group Conference - Autodesk GIS 2000 was organised in San Rafael, California, USA. The conference started off with presentations by key members of the Autodesk executive staff Carol Bartz, CEO, and Joe Astroth, Executive Vice President. They offered insight into the future of GIS, and described the Autodesk GIS strategy.

Welcoming the GIS 2000 conference Carol Bartz, CEO said "GIS is a very exciting opportunity for Autodesk. We're convinced that creating, managing and leveraging location-based information is going to become more and more important to corporations and to governments. That's why we've made significant investments in GIS acquisitions and technologies. And we are continuing to invest in this business." Further she included that Autodesk still have a strong commitment to the desktop and convinced that customers will be using desktop solutions well into the future . At the same time Internet is going to become an important collaboration and communication tool. For utilities and communication companies, it's the demands of working in a deregulated environment. For governments, it's the need to provide citizens with better services at lower costs.Joe Astroth, Executive Vice President, GIS Solutions Division during his speech emphasised on the future investment of Autodesk and developing leading edge technologies that will keep the industry at the forefront.
Company Alliances with Autodesk and showcase of Autodesk product updates was the major attraction.Some of the application focused areas were
- Pinellas County, Florida (US), Armed Law Enforcement with Autodesk MapGuide for crime Tracking and Analysis
- MMS Mining develops ore deposit models with AutoCAD Land Development Desktop plus Civil and Survey modules then uses this data for graphical presentations.
- CADTel systems partners with Autodesk to deliver Enterprise FM Solutions to the Telecommunications market.
- UCLID Software, the industry leader in land records modernization technology took this opportunity at Autodesk GIS 2000, and announced the release of IcoMap version 2.5, a complete solution for accurately converting paper maps, deeds and legal descriptions into digital maps.
- Kanotech Information systems Ltd. became the first company to enter the Autodesk Strategic Partner Program serving the local government industry making the data available yo Nontechnical Users and the general public.
