GITA's Ninth Annual GIS for Oil & Gas Conference Sees Attendance Boost

October 12, 2000-Aurora, Colo. The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announces record-breaking full-conference attendance at its Ninth Annual GIS for Oil and Gas Conference, held September 18-20, 2000 in Houston, Texas. While the total attendance of 548 dropped slightly from last year due primarily to fewer exhibitor booth personnel, first-time and full-conference attendance increased substantially over 1999-up 51% and 29% respectively. GITA's Executive Director, Bob Samborski said, "The boost in attendance this year indicates increasing interest on the benefits of geospatial information technology on the part of oil and gas professionals."

The two-and-a-half-day conference included in-depth introductory and advanced workshops, a 20 educational sessions in two concurrent tracks, and 39 exhibitors showcasing the latest advances in GIS hardware, software, and services designed for use within the industry. Oil and gas company representatives and GIS experts shared their knowledge and experience in implementing GIS-related technology. Presentations focused on practical applications of GIS in day-to-day operations, the essential system components, and using this information in making cost-effective business solutions.
