Rapid developments have taken place particularly during the last decade in the field of Geo Spatial Information. There are various cross cutting issues, concerns regarding every thing about Geographic Information. It is necessary to have a common forum in order to ensure emergence of a perspective and homogeneous view and plan a network of Indian Universities and professional associations. As such an Indian University Consortium for Geographic Information has been formed on the first day of New Century. A national meet is being held at Hyderabad from 10th April for 2 days. It is expected to expand and strengthen Geographic Information Science and Technology education at all levels and provide the organizational infrastructure to foster collaborative interdisciplinary research in Spatial IT in a broad sense.
