It is said that a society can be judged for its level of civil evolution by observing the way they treat their old, disabled and ill. Any service which supplements this aspect, contributes to the overall increase in the ranking of the society - like the use of computerised maps by the National Health Service of UK to improve patient care or even the use of satellite and aerial reconnaissance for search and rescue. This is convergence - the focus being 'human life'. What more can the geospatial community ask for...

Ambulance trusts in England join mapping agreement

Following the launch of a pilot agreement aimed at encouraging the use of computerised mapping across the National Health Service (NHS), every ambulance trust in England is to benefit from greater access to Ordnance Survey’s most detailed digital geographic information from this month onwards. The plan is to ensure health providers get the reliable information they need to improve patient care while making the most efficient possible use of their resources.

Arkansa to get imagery from Earthdata to support Tornado emergency management

EarthData agreed to produce 1-meter orthoimagery as quickly as possible to map the tornado's destruction in response to Arkansas Geographic Information Office (AGIO) request to support the state's response to the April 2 tornado that destroyed a reported 80 percent of Marmaduke, Arkansas in USA.

Alberta Energy and Utilities Board receives award for petroleum mapping

Alberta, Canada, 6 April 2006: The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) was presented with an Award of Excellence at ESRI Canada's tenth annual ESRI Regional User Conference in Calgary on April 6. Alex Miller, President of ESRI Canada, presented the Award in recognition of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board’s innovative applications for petroleum mapping, analysis, and visualization.
