The GeoCritical Terror Index Score (GTIS), is an analytical tool from GeoCritical LLC, which allows end users to assess the vulnerability of their corporate assets relative to the location of historical terror attacks. GTIS creates simple to understand geographic representations of extensive terrorism data, drawn from official US government sources and analyzed by experienced counter-terrorism subject matter experts, to assist your corporate stakeholders with mitigating risks to your overseas operations.

Business Continuity, Crisis Management, Security and Risk Management executives can each benefit from the unique approach GeoCritical takes to analyzing terror-related attacks. The GTIS is a customized product tailored specifically toward each client's individual requirements based on their geographic footprint, and populated with current, comprehensive terror attack data. This approach provides decision makers with specific actionable intelligence in a dynamic environment.

"As criminologists know, the best predictor of future events is past events. The best predictor of terrorist attacks would therefore be past terrorist attacks. The foreseeability of terrorist attacks is based on five factors: frequency, similarity, recency, proximity and publicity of past attacks. The probability of attack would increase exponentially based on these factors," states Dr. Daniel B. Kennedy, Professor of Criminal Justice and Security Administration, University of Detroit.

GeoVector Corporation, provider of "advanced search" capabilities for location-based applications, announced an additional patent within its 'augmented reality technology' family. GeoVector currently enables mobile devices to access data on points of interest using a unique combination of GPS and a built-in compass. The new patent builds upon that capability, allowing users to interact with stored images based on their surroundings. The company currently provides products and services which significantly simplify local searches, allowing users to point their mobile device toward objects of interest to access information about them. Users can "point and click" with their mobile phone the way a computer user navigates using a mouse.

"Imagine pointing a mobile device down a city street and seeing a digital image of how that street looked a century ago, or might look a century from now. Imagine pointing at a new car billboard and seeing the car in any colour you want, then downloading a video clip," explained John Ellenby, GeoVector's CEO. "Pointing is a natural gesture that signals a request for information about a particular object or place," Ellenby added. "With GeoVector, the network knows where the user is and in which direction they are pointing, thus cutting down on unwanted information being delivered."

MetaCarta Inc., provider of geographic search and referencing solutions, announced MetaCarta NewsMap service, a new hosted service that allows online media outlets to display maps that show the places mentioned in their news stories. Users and businesses, such as financial institutions, media organization and corporate entities, can now quickly visualize breaking news, based on where it is happening, and anticipate how news events will impact financial and business markets. MetaCarta NewsMap draws users back to the publisher's site for repeat visits, substantially increasing user frequency and page views metrics, enabling publishers to better capture advertising dollars and maximize advertising rates.

Reuters is the first media company to use MetaCarta's NewsMap service, deploying it on Reuters.com. When a visitor to Reuters.com views a U.S. news story, the NewsMap appears next to the story.
