The Enemy Within?

Home land security will face another hurdle with the citizens of a country (disgruntled or misguided ) willingly aid the process of illegal immigration. The news about an application developed for cell phones, which specifically gives the user, directions to find water during illegal border crossings along the south western US border is being hotly debated. The application developed by a UC San Diego academic is touted as an 'humanitarian' tool...

The impact of illegal immigration are best highlighted with happenings on the U.S - Mexico border. The detail study about the impact of such illegal immigration on terrorism is available at a site interestingly named 'The Dark Side of illegal immigration'... implying a brighter side! The creators of the above mentioned 'humanitarian illegal immigration application' need to understand that their application will not be used just by the 'desperate to immigrate to the greener side Mexicans' or rather 'Maybe Bin Laden is not in Pakistan...'

I dread the day when some 'misguided' soul uploads a similar application for the Indo-Bangladesh as well as Indo-Pakistan border. The issue of ethics in geospatial is assuming greater significance now. Let is meet and discuss this during Map India 2010...
