Strip Mining!
D.W. Johnson in his book 'Topography And Strategy In The War' says, that his objective is to place before the reader such a picture of each theater of war as shall enable him to follow with greater ease and livelier interest the movements of their troops... The recently published UNOSAT map depicting the ravages along the strip of land called Gaza just strengthens the fact that nothing has changed since Johnson wrote his book in 1918. The difference is only in the level of detail... today we use 'high resolution' satellite imagery to depict the locations of war and strife, and possibly the same data was used to plan out the 'precision bombing' in which 'very few' civilians die!!!
The revenue generated by defense and war related 'geospatial technology' has been credited with the sustainable development of the 'geospatial industry' - it works heavy on my conscience. I look forward to meeting you where 'Geospatial Technology for Sustainable Planet Earth' is the theme of the day.
