12th June 2006 VOL.2 ISSUE 24

From '3D - just for visualisation’ , the worlds cutting edge CAD softwares came up with quantitative 3D. It had its own gestation period, starting troubles, a phase for user acceptance and issues about ease of use. A 'sneek peek' at one of the leading CAD software's next version at a road show in Delhi recently, was an eye opener. We will now have 3D CAD with ease. Its adaptation within 3D GIS is the next step.

The necessity of knowing the 'z - axis', or the 3rd dimension, that too with high levels of precision was aptly discussed at the just concluded 'LOCATION 2006' conference at Bangalore, India. The need of augmentation systems for precision locational fixes in real time for applications of commercial value like precision agriculture - needing a 10cm global accuracy, to critical human safety applications like aircraft landing, were strongly advocated. the necessity of a seamless Global NSS could not have been more convincing.
