1st May 2006 VOL.2 ISSUE 18

Everyone loves a war – and the geospatial data generating industry is no exception. It is evident from the extensive usage of high resolution imagery in media coverage of the recent wars, as to how much data was acquired (obviously paid ) for satiating the visual appetite of we - couch potatoes, and this does not include the data bought for reconnaissance (a decent term for spying) by the countries at war. The wars are over… then comes the turn of monitoring and rebuilding what was destroyed, and more geospatial data is bought. Is this ever going to be discussed in the seminars and workshops we conduct or attend on ‘Ethics in GIS…?. Lets pray for ‘World Peace’.
