Pictometry International Corp., a leading provider of georeferenced aerial image libraries whose patented technology is used globally to capture oblique image libraries, announced today that its lawsuit with Aerial Cartographics of America; Ofek Aerial Photography
International; and Greenman-Pedersen Inc., has been settled with Ofek admitting patent infringement. In August 2005, Pictometry filed suit alleging that the defendants willfully infringed on Pictometry’s patent (U.S Patent No. 5,247,356). As a result, Ofek will leave the U .S. market immediately.
On the other hand, this year in March, GEOSPAN Corporation had alleged that Pictometry International Corp. has infringed and continues to infringe GEOSPAN's U.S. Patent No. 5,633,946, entitled "Method and Apparatus for Collecting and Processing Visual and Spatial Position Information from a Moving Platform"
Google Sets Sights On 3D Map of the Oceans
Diving into the unexplored, is what Google probably plans to do next. The application which can be called Google Ocean will enable the visualisation of underwater topography or bathymetry. Though Google has not announced anything, the conclave of oceanography experts put together by Google has lead to this belief. While the entire land surface of our planet has been thoroughly imaged, the ocean bottom is rather sparsely sampled - hence the resolution of this layer could leave a lot to desire.
