so you sow...
Last week 'stimulus' took on a whole new meaning due to a novel business strategy by the OS. The stimulus is for users of OS data to discover, evaluate and innovate new products. The data licence is free... though not all the data is free, a user could request up to 10% of the country's data! So what does 'free our data' have to say about this? Geospatial in UK will reap a few days down the line.
There is a lack of such stimulus and innovative models for developing geospatial among many NMOs. The NSDI becomes a means of hosting and attending conferences and the 'main issues' stay unaddressed. The NSGIC blog lists some rather provocative points applicable to most of the world's NSDIs. If we can pick a page from the way federal infrastructure (roads, railways, utility services, urban renewal projects, low cost social housing etc.) is being put into place, the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model could be a panacea and the NSDI just governs, guides and facilitates the private sector involved in the national task of building maintaining, sustaining and disseminating spatial data.
...in a lighter vein- the Berg Insight report states that mobile navigation users will increase by 100%, but have they considered a Victorian spanner...
