Less advertisement, please !
- I would like to point out that the March-April issue of
GIS@development could have been more informative. This comment I pass based on
the previous issues which have been of excellent reading quality and been really
informative. You must notice that the number of advertisements that are carried
in this issue far out-beats the articles. I understand that these are essential
for any magazine to operate but then the articles should also have gone up
proportionately.
I feel you need to bring out importance of GIS and
its usability in certain areas which dominates the current situation. By this I
mean, any problem that exists in the society, country, city today, you should
get articles that point out how GIS could facilitate improvement in the
situation. For this get comments from the industry. I would also like to point
out that your articles are dominated by government departments and very little
information of the private sector. Start a section on coverage of a company
working in the GIS industry in every issue.
Start a section on a certain interesting web sites. Ask the
users to contribute in this and suggest some interesting web sites. The quality
of information that has been given to the readers also requires lot of
improvement (News and Data). The previous issues were informative. Get it back
to level. One more thing, certain issues that you raise like the one on banning
of digitization. In the subsequent issue you should have carried reactions from
the industry. People might not write to you for certain reasons, but you talk to
the GIS industry on a regular basis, so you should have written about the
reactions; try to do this for the story on “Unshackle the Maps”.
The coverage on Corporate Seminar also left lot to be
desired. There was no mention of the group discussions, issues raised by the
participants. You covered only the presentation and to the bare minimum. Issues
and problems,… why were they missing?
This is written only
as a well-wisher for your magazine. I feel it could be due to the pressure of
Nepal and the Corporate Seminar. But do not relax and get back to the previous
status.
