Where did india make a mark?
Amitabha Pande, Joint Secretary, Department of Science and Technology
is the person, who created waves in the Indian GIS scenario last year,
Amitabha is known for his dynamism, quick-decision making skills and
persistence. One of the hard-core NSDI champions, Amitabha is now
looking at projecting Indian contributions in the field of surveying and
mapping internationally in a big way.
B V R Mohan Reddy is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Infotech
Enterprises Ltd. - A GIS / CAD company which is making a mark globally.
Infotech has been acquiring major clients in Germany, UK and USA
over the last few years. In 2001, Pratt and Whiyney, a division of the
US-based major conglomerate United Technologies Corporation
acquired significant equity of 18.4 per cent in InfoTech. Reddy was
also successful in signing a contract with Triathlon Ltd. of Canada to
provide photogrammetry services. Infotech Europe also bought
London-based Mapcentric, Europe’s leading independent GIS
distributor.
ISRO is leading the ad-hoc Working Group on Education at Committee
on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS). India is represented here by
Mukund Rao, Dy Director, Earth Observation Systems, Indian Space
Research Organisation (ISRO).
Dr Nitin Kumar Tripathi, ex-faculty of Indian Institute of Technology,
Kanpur and now a faculty at AIT Bangkok, became the founder editor-in-
chief of the journal Asian Journal of Geoinformtics, brough out by
ARSRIN, AARS. Besides this, R K Gupta of National Remote Sensing
Agency continued to serve on the Editorial Board of International
Journal of Remote Sensing.
Dr Rangnath Navalgund, Director, National Remote Sensing Agency,
is chairing ISPRS Technical Commission VII on Resource and
Environmental Monitoring. Besides this Dr. P. S. Roy, Dean Indian
Institute of Remote Sensing and Sanjay Kumar, Director, Centre for
Spatial Database Management and Solutions (CSDMS) are chairing
two working groups in ISPRS this term.
