According to Dato' Hamid, "JUPEM is the first government department in Malaysia to introduce e-commerce for the purchase of digital cadastral data and image of the Certified Plan on the Internet. A buyer has the choice of either activating a pre-paid account or using the credit card e-wallet as a mode of payment, to enable downloading of data purchased through the web."
MACRES - All set to lead
Malaysian Centre for Remote Sensing (MACRES) is the principal research and development organisation in the area of remote sensing and related technologies. While outlining the mission of the Centre, its Director Dato Nik Nasruddin Mahmood said, "Our aim is to attain national self-reliance and international excellence in the development and operational use of remote sensing, GIS and related technologies for sustainable development and strategic planning. And this we can achieve only through research and capacity building."
MACRES provides four corporate services - Contract Research, Remote Sensing Data Services, Training and Consulting Services to its clients in the public and private sector. The data has been used in major national programmes such as National Resource and Environmental Management (NAREM), Satellite Image Map (SIM), National Disaster Management, Highlands and Islands Monitoring, Monitoring of Environmentally Sensitive Areas and others.
MyGDI - The direction ahead
The objective of Malaysian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MyGDI) is to enable online access to geo-spatial information, to avoid duplication of effort in data collection and to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, correctness and consistency of data used in the planning, development and management of land resources. Most of the federal government land-related agencies are involved with MyGDI.

In keeping with visionary thinking, research in safety aspects such as emergency rescue planning and in potential national
revenue generators is being emphasized by the emergency and safety research group at UPM. Spatial technology, in particular, GIS and GPS are invaluable tools. A specially formulated site to assist tourist to plan their trip to Malaysia has also been set up.
