DITAGIS: Creating GIS awareness through innovation
Function, Organisation and Resource
As a leading GIS center in Vietnam, DITAGIS is responsible for:
- Researching and expanding information technology and GIS into the fields involving territory, natural resource, environment
- Producing software and hardware based on researching results
- Performing technology and science services
Director
The Director of DITAGIS is Professor Phuoc Tran Vinh. The Academic Board (AB) is expected to be a scientific and technical consultant for the Center. The AB members are professors in mathematics, information technology and GIS. To develop a project, DITAGIS has formed 5 groups. They are: GIS Project Development, GIS Project Management, GIS Researching, GIS Training and General Administration Group. The GIS Researching Group is divided into 7 teams including geodatabase team, GIS analysis team, remote sensing team, global positioning system team, GIS data transmission team, GIS data acquisition team and data workshop.
The Center is equipped with hi-tech hardwares such as IBM Server, Scanner A0, Plotter A0, 60 IBM Clients and PC, GPS Trimble 4800, GPS Garmin. It is working with popular GIS softwares such as ArcInfo8, ArcSDE, ArcIMS, PC ArcInfo, ArcView, PCI, Spans.
Training
DITAGIS is presently the only GIS center in Vietnam which offers GIS master course. The Center has trained many personnel for international and national projects. It is presently training students of Vietnam National University.
Publications
2000: DITAGIS published the book 'Some elective issues in GIS'. It is a valuable GIS reference book for people interesting in doing research with or about GIS. The book has presented new and basic concepts of GIS in Vietnam.
2003: The book 'Introduction to GIS' was printed as a textbook for students. The book provides students with basic GIS knowledge embedded in many ArcView exercises.
