Map Middle East 2007

The 3rd Annual Map Middle East Conference with the theme “Geospatial Convergence: The Next Step" was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from April 9- 11. The conference organized by GIS Development in cooperation with Dubai Municipality, that embraces all aspects of geospatial technologies and their applications, was attended by over 1,000 delegates from across the globe. The conference comprised of a Round Table Meet on SDI; The Geospatial Executive Leadership Forum with the theme "GeoSpatial Enterprises"; seminars on “Construction & Engineering” and “ Critical Infrastructure Protection & Emergency Management”; Plenary sessions with “Geospatial Convergence” and “Emerging Applications” as their themes besides eight technical sessions on diverse themes. The Conference concluded with a resolve to take the geospatial technology to more areas where common people are benefited.



ISPRS
An exclusive conference on Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry under the umbrella of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) was held simultaneously. The conference cvomprised of five technical sessions and a panel discussion. Professor Ian Dowman, Chairman of the ISPRS said, “Middle East region is very important in the development of geospatial information due to the increase in the number of developmental projects currently on in the region.



Exhibition
The exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality. 55 exhibitors participated in exhibition. Among the exhibitors, Intergraph and Topcon shared the first place for the best exhibitor award. The second and third places went to the stalls of Trimble and Al Ain Municipality respectively.



GIS Development Award
Ordnance Survey received the the Geospatial Award announced by GIS Development, for being a role model for National Mapping Organisations Worldwide. Dr. Vanessa Lawrence, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Ordnance Survey accepted the award and citation from H. E. Eng. Hussain Lootha on behalf of the winners. The Geospatial Awards were constituted by the company during the recent Map World Forum held in Hyderabad, India.
