Picture This - Glacial glory lost to global warming

You are a short drive away from the state capital, trees at your back and in front of you, across an iceberg-dotted lake, an enormous ice field flowing down the valley in a glacier that ends at lake's edge. Welcome to Mendelhall Glacier.

About 12 miles from downtown Juneau, Alaska, USA, Mendenhall is one of the most picturesque and popular glaciers in the world. As with many other glaciers in the world, Mendenhall is getting annihilated by global warming. These satellite images show that Mendenhall has retreated about 600 feet for a total loss of about 40 acres in the past four years.
