To work with Navionics and ASI
Infotech Enterprises Ltd., the Hyderabad based company with major focus on digital map conversion, is now set to work in the area of marine navigation after having successfully handled projects for creation of data for automobile navigation, rail navigation and street navigation. It has entered into an agreement with Navionics of Italy which is engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of marine electronic chart systems for commercial, recreational and governmental markets around the world. As per the pact, Infotech will be converting the navigation charts of the world for Navionics over the next two years.
Meanwhile, Infotech has bagged another major contract worth Rs. 23.5 crores during the next twelve months which envisages providing GIS conversion, consulting and mapping services, to be executed for Analytical Surveys Inc (ASI). Analytical Surveys is a leading provider of customised data conversion and digital mapping services for the GIS market.
Elections and GIS Technology
The website of the Election Commission of India has a list of states that can be used to get a tabulated result. During the recent elections in four states held in last week of November 98, the Election Commission posted state maps depicting up-to-the minute counting information in each constituency, for which ESRI India developed and implemented the solution. The counting data, stored and updated in an RDBMS is accessed by an ArcView Internet Map Server query. The query results regenerate the map to display the latest results and push it on to the web server. It can be recollected that it was for the first time in 1993, Doordarshan was interested in presenting Election News Bulletins to its viewers supported by maps.
Autodesk Sets-up 100% Subsidiary in India
Introduces AutoCAD Upgrade Management Program
Autodesk has set-up a 100% subsidiary in India. With its last year revenues of US$617 million, Autodesk is the fourth largest PC Software Company in the world and has over 4 million customers worldwide. Autodesk Inc. in India, will now be Autodesk India Private Ltd. Autodex also plans to establish three divisions - Sales & Marketing Division, Developer Consulting Group Division and Software Development Projects Division, in line with Autodesk’s worldwide model in near future .
Spatial Technologies Export Unit in Vishakhapatanam
Spatial Technologies, Hyderabad, a pioneer in GIS and client-server applications is setting up a Software Export Unit at the Export Processing Zone at Vishakhapatnam. Planned to be launched in the international market in April ’99, ‘Spatial GIS’ and ‘Spatial Vector’ would be integrated to provide users within automatic vectorisation of Raster images within Spatial GIS environment which will be available on PCs both as servers and single user.
Mr.Rao, Chief Executive of Spatial Technologies said that Spatial Andhra, a vertical product built around Spatial GIS, is a compilation of statistical data for all villages, industrial units, drinking water facilities and transport facilities. Setting up Spatial Tech in Vishakhapatnam has been planned due to its skilled manpower and facilities like the two MBPs optical fiber link between the zone and Software Technology Park earth station in Hyderabad.
Rolta gets Rs. 350 crore Telecom Software Order
Rolta India has bagged a Rs. 350 crore order from a European telecom company for telecom software. At present the company has an order book position of Rs. 130 to Rs. 140 crore for both its CAD/CAM and GIS Mapping Software which is being used by Telecom companies, oil and gas distribution companies for digitization purpose of the location and the type of telecom cable and the network. Continuously showing a fast pace in its growth, Rolta’s turnover in the first nine months ending September 1998 is Rs. 88.37 crore; the previous nine months showing turnover worth Rs. 61.68 crore. Now the company is going to announce its full year financial results on February 17, 1999.
Currently, Rolta is taking initiatives for increasing its export in near future in AM/FM/GIS/PDS conversion services.
GSI goes for ESRI Software
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) recently purchased well over Rs. 1 crore worth of GIS software from ESRI India. The order for about 20 copies of Arc/Info among other software is yet another step in GSI’s drive to use technology in their work more effectively. The software will form part of the countrywide GIS setup that GSI envisions will help them create local level geological databases. GSI is the process of setting up a National Geoscientific Data Centre at Calcutta and Subcentres at Northern Region -Lucknow, Western Region – Jaipur, Southern Region –Hyderabad and Coal Wing Calcutta. Besides, it is also upgrading the Digital Map Making facilities at Hyderabad.
Coffee Board to use GIS
Coffee Board is planning to under take a special program to expand the Domestic market base for coffee besides setting up a market intelligence unit during the Ninth Plan with a special project involving the private sector already under government’s consideration. The board will supply accurate crop estimates to growers using remote sensing techniques besides contemplating to frame suitable arbitration procedures to gain buyers’ confidence in global market since it is a major problem area.
