It normally takes two days to finish a simple map, while a complex one involving a number of objects takes almost five days".

    GIS Database for 39 Forests

The Asian Elephant Research and Conservation Centre (AERCC), at the Indian Institute of Science, has brought out the GIS database for 39 forest divisions comprising the four Project Elephant reserves in South India out of 10 designated Project Elephant reserves throughout the country. The GIS database has identified the Sathyamangalam forest division, the Indira Gandhi sanctuary (Tamil Nadu), the Bandipur Project Tiger Reserve and the Hunsur Forest Division (Karnataka) as having high elephant distribution areas and "conservation values" which reflect varying potential for both elephant and biodiversity conservation strategies and funding. Since the habitat is spread over a large area across the four States, there are dangers of habitat fragmentation.
