ESRI and Tadpole-Cartesia Announce New Field Solution for ESRI Customers
New Relationship Results in Seamless Integration Between Conic and ArcInfo Software
ESRI and Tadpole-Cartesia, the field mapping systems business unit of mobile computing specialist Tadpole Technology plc, today announced a strategic agreement aimed at combining the companies' respective technologies to deliver a powerful GIS/mobile computing solution. The solution, which is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2000, will benefit users in electric, gas, telecommunications, and water utility markets.
Integration will take place with ESRI's ArcInfo 8 professional GIS software and Tadpole's Conic mobile GIS software. The end result of the largest research and development effort in the history of the GIS industry, the ArcInfo 8 system sets the new standard for applying geographic knowledge and supporting spatial decision making. From departmental GIS to large spatial enterprises, ArcInfo 8 is the scalable solution that provides a complete, integrated platform for creating, managing, and disseminating geographic information. Conic is a robust, object-oriented field data capture software package. Divided into four levels of functionality, Conic consists of Conic Mapbook, which provides field map viewing and navigation; Conic Redline, which provides redlining and sketching; Conic Inspection, which provides data attribute access and query; and Conic Survey, which provides basemap modification capabilities. Key benefits of nic products include enhanced field mobility and improved workforce productivity.
Field inventory, field design, and data capture are key applications for the new solution. Potential users include utility work crews, customer service representatives, and any utility professional who needs an easy-to-use, rugged solution that can quickly and easily download and upload information with ArcInfo 8 software. For instance, a customer service representative can now go into the field and meet with a customer at a proposed construction site and perform on-site, on- he-fly, automated field sketches and design. This information can then be uploaded into ArcInfo and updated in the enterprise database.
