GeoSearch with Northern Light Content Now Available on MapBlast
Web site from Vicinity Corp announced that it will feature Vicinity GeoSearch®, the first geographically enabled Web search capability, with Northern Light content on its Web site.
Now, visitors to MapBlast! can find virtually anything by location on the Web -- from 10K runs to yoga classes to concert performances -- via Vicinity's GeoSearch technology and Northern Light's content. Vicinity, the leading provider of Internet-based marketing infrastructure services, and Northern Light Technology Inc. (www.NorthernLight.com) an award winning Internet search engine and leading provider of information management solutions to individuals and enterprises launched the new GeoSearch-enabled search application in April at www.northernlight.com.
Starting today, visitors at the MapBlast! Web site (www.mapblast.com) can access the application that allows them to include location information in a search request and receive a list of Web pages that are sorted by their proximity to the user.
``MapBlast! continually strives to add valuable, location-based applications to its site. With the addition of Vicinity GeoSearch, MapBlast! provides a powerful tool to search the Web that is even more relevant to where you live, where you work and where you play,'' said David Cherner, vice president and general manager of syndication at Vicinity. ``Now, with Vicinity GeoSearch, consumers can find virtually anything in the real world on MapBlast!''
``We're pleased to be providing our industry-leading Web indexing capabilities to MapBlast!,'' said David Seuss, chief executive officer of Northern Light. ``The addition of this application will complement MapBlast!'s array of location-based information by allowing users to search for practically anything by location. If you search for bike shops in Seattle, the search provides a comprehensive list of links to Web pages for the bike shops within the specified radius of your address in Seattle.''
The GeoSearch technology allows users to search the Web for pages that contain physical address or phone number information. For example, a user can enter a query that is equivalent to ``bed & breakfasts within ten miles of 111 Maple Street, Anytown, Anystate 11111.'' The result will be a list of the URLs of all Web pages that NorthernLight.com determines are about bed & breakfasts and which contain a complete or partial address within ten miles of that address. As with other Vicinity products, maps and driving directions for the addresses are available.
