Geographic Information Systems Promotions For Land Records Management

Springfield, Virginia, Dec. 15, 2000 - Autometric, a geospatial information technology company, announced the selection of Dr. Andrew Fox and Dr. Simeon Tubig to lead its pursuit of web-based business in geographic information systems (GIS) and land records management. Many state and local governments across the country have the mandate to modernize and automate their land records and map information, which has traditionally been managed using inefficient technology that does not support easy public access. There is a big push for government agencies to provide efficient access to public information over the World Wide Web, a business area in which Autometric is a leader for the federal government.

"There is a great need for an internet-based solution that gives people quick and easy answers to their questions about where things are, and I intend to build a business around that need," said Martin Flaherty, Group Manager of the Spatial Knowledge Solutions Group in Autometric. "For the first time, our clients will be able to offer customized information delivery systems that can satisfy the needs of the vast majority of their users, regardless of their hardware, software, and level of computer experience," he said.

Drs. Fox and Tubig will lead the development of the next generation of Internet map server, to be built using the best Autometric and third-party technology available. Current "off-the-shelf" solutions are typically good at delivering only one type of information content, such as images, vector (line) maps, text, video, or scanned documents. Autometric's solution integrates the best technology for delivering all of these types of information much faster than is currently possible using and easy-to-use interface. The result will be a client-server solution that is more independent of computer platforms, data types, and legacy software than current Internet mapping solutions.

Drs. Fox and Tubig were selected to lead his group in developing commercial GIS and land records business on the basis of their technical expertise and experience.

Autometric, Incorporated, has been a world leader in geospatial information technology and solutions for over 40 years. Autometric is a leading provider of end-to-end geospatial solutions, providing commercial products and services for data storage, data ware-housing, data production, and data visualization. Autometric supports defense and commercial customers in analysis, system design and engineering, software engineering, and data production. Autometric is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Boeing Company.
