ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 2000--Motorola Inc.'s (NYSE: MOT) Global Telecom Solutions Sector (GTSS), a leading supplier of the world's GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) digital wireless network infrastructure, has signed a US$ 26 million network expansion contract with Pakistan Mobile Communication (Mobilink).

Under the terms of the network expansion contract with Mobilink, Motorola will increase network capacity from 150,000 subscribers to 300,000 by installing its new generation Horizonmacro and Horizonmicro portfolio of GSM infrastructure solutions in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad.

"The primary goal of GSM manufacturers and operators is to ensure excellent coverage for consumers. By expanding the Mobilink network with Motorola's industry-leading GSM solution, an even greater number of subscribers soon will be able to enjoy the high quality service and its greatly enhanced voice and call quality," said Zaheer Khan, area account manager of Motorola's Telecom Carrier Solutions Group. Zaheer said the expanded network should be fully deployed by March of 2001.
