Indexonly Technologies to create Wireless Location Industry Association

WASHINGTON, D.C. December 18, 2000 – Eight leading companies involved in the wireless location industry from U.S., Europe and Canada have joined together to announce today the creation of the Wireless Location Industry Association (WLIA), located in Washington, D.C.

Peter Ribeiro, COO (President & CEO as of January 1, 2001) of Indexonly Technologies, Inc. Indexonly has developed a global geocoded business directory that will use Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandated wireless subscriber location information to benefit wireless users. WLIA will become the voice of the emerging wireless location industry. The importance of this new industry association has been driven home by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandate of having all mobile phone locations identifiable for 911 services. Wireless enhanced 911 (E911) rules need to be met by U.S. cellular companies with E911 requirements divided into two phases. Phase I requires wireless carriers to deliver the telephone number of the handset originating a 911 call, and the location of the cell site or base station receiving the 911 call. Phase II requires carriers to deliver more specific latitude and longitude location information. The FCC's E911 program mandates U.S. cell phone companies be able to locate their callers within 100 meters by October 2001.
