Real-Time Vehicle Tracking System
E&S Land Data Management Consultants have recently developed a real-time vehicle tracking system called “On Line Fleet Management” for Hong Kong. The application is now assisting various fleet management organizations such as the transport industry, government, taxis and buses to monitor their ground fleet more efficiently. The system uses ER Mapper’s, Enhanced Compressed Wavelet (ECW) and Software Development Kit (SDK) to mosaic the digital maps of Hong Kong. The mosaiced maps are then compressed in ECW format with georeferenced coordinates. Every vehicle is installed with a GPS Receiver and a Smart Modem to allow transmission of radio data. Locations of all vehicles are constantly transmitted to the central control station so the position of all vehicles can be displayed on the geo-referenced ECW image. The ECW image in the system allows users to display, zoom and roam around the Hong Kong area to view accurate vehicle positions in real-time. For more details, visit www.ermapper.com
Trimble Wins Railway Contract in China
Trimble has been awarded a contract from the Chinese Ministry of Railway to provide 40 Global Positioning System (GPS) survey systems. The GPS Total Station® 4700 systems will be used to construct a new 400 mile railway from Gui Yang to Lou Di in the Gui Zhou providence of China. Once the final design is complete, the surveyors can use the GPS Total Station 4700 systems for fast stakeout-allowing the earthmoving and construction to begin.
GPS Architecture for Mobile Devices
With the goal of providing the smallest and lowest power Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver for mobile devices, Trimble has unveiled its new FirstGPS(TM) architecture which is developed for power-sensitive mobile information devices such as laptops, PDAs, digital cameras, smart phones, pagers and automobile navigation systems. The architecture allows high-volume manufacturers of consumer products to add GPS location with minimal impact on the device’s size or battery life. For more information visit www.trimble.com
